Activities with Children

Children love it here.  It gives them a sense of freedom that is so rare now in Britain.  They love riding their bikes, hunting for tadpoles in the lake, mucking about on the tennis court and exploring the woods.

If you are looking for entertainment locally there is a good selection:

Wyeside Arts Centre – this is an excellent arts centre and cinema in Builth Wells.  There are 2 cinema screens, a gallery and they offer regular classes and live performances.  The programme for small children is especially worth a look with box office films and great opportunities for children to interact with live shows.

Quackers Play Barn – only 6 miles away near Newbridge on Wye.  The is a large indoor play barn with plenty for small children and older – drop slide, tube slide, roller racers, a rope bridge, ball pit and more.  There is also a large sandpit and racetrack with pedal go-karts as well as a nature walk.  There is also an on site café.

Vale of Rheidol Railway – is a beautiful steam train travelling through the Rheidol Valley from Devil’s Bridge down towards the coast at Aberystywyth.  Open carriages allow you to enjoy the spectacular scenery.

The Small Breeds Farm and Owl Centre – wonderful for children.  Here they can meet an array of miniature, rare and very friendly creatures.  It is just over the border in Herefordshire (about 45 mins from here).

Dan yr Ogog Caves – are so much more than just that!  They are the national show caves in Wales but along with the 3 amazing caves complete with pounding waterfalls, there is also the world’s largest collection of life-sized dinosaur models – 200 of them.

Llangorse Multi-Activity Centre – is an award winning indoor and outdoor activity centre in the foothills of the Brecon Beacons.  They offer climbing, low-level bouldering, rickety rope bridges, cargo nets  and zip lines.  There is also a fantastic ropes course and riding.
