Fishing

Wye Usk Foundation, fishing for wild trout, salmon and winter grayling in the delightful head waters and tributaries of the Wye.

River and stream fishing is extremely challenging, especially in the smaller tributaries.

Miles of unspoilt ‘beats’ are now available on some of Britain’s prettiest stretches of river thanks to the work of the Wye Usk Foundation and the owners.

Clear instructions and detailed maps are given in the guide although it’s probably wise to bring a good ordinance survey map too (147 & 148).

Thigh waders are normally sufficient although chest waders could be needed on some beats in some conditions. Studs are a wise precaution when fishing as rocks can be very slippery.

Bag limit is two trout per beat per day (minimum 9 inches) although some beats are catch and release only. Barbless hooks only as these streams contain many salmon and trout parr that seem to take flies however presented!
